Cooking Fresh, Simple, Pure Local Food… Together
Hurley's and Michael's Genuine Food & Drink team to sample Cayman grown products

Executive chef Thomas Tennant of Michael's Genuine Food & Drink in Camana Bay joins Hurley's Gourmet Deli for a complimentary tasting of locally-raised Cayman beef and produce from the Michael's Genuine food cart this Saturday, March 10 at Hurley's Grand Harbour.

Recently arrived on-island from Miami, the restaurant's mobile cart will be parked at Hurley's entrance from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as part of an on-going effort to showcase how easy and delicious it is to find and prepare fresh, local products on island.

"We're really pleased to be working with Chef Thomas and Michael's Genuine for the first of these monthly local tasting events," said Hurley's Marketing Manager Scot Kristal. "Both Michael's and Hurley's work with many of the same ranchers, growers, and fishermen. It's only natural that we team up to promote their great products together. Our customers want the best local products and we're delighted to offer them a chance to try them here at our store."

Customers will be able to sample Spicy Cayman Beef with Local Cabbage and Bok Choy Slaw prepared by chefs of the two establishments. Customers attending the free event will be sampling a Hurley's favorite, Charcoal Steaks, cut by Hurley's Butcher Bruce Carlile from the finest quality, dry aged Cayman Beef. To complement the beef, the freshly prepared slaw also features locally grown produce from around the island.

"Whenever I have the opportunity to get out of the restaurant and work with great product and people, I'm in," said Chef Tennant. "We share a common philosophy with the folks at Hurley's, and by working together we can become better at what we do, as well as educate both our customers and ourselves on what is out there and help promote Cayman's rich resources. The possibilities are endless."

All of the ingredients needed to make the dish at home will be available for purchase at Hurley's, along with copies of the recipes for Spicy Cayman Beef and Local Cabbage and Bok Choy Slaw prepared by the chefs.

On the back of the recipe cards is an exclusive offer for Hurley's Advantage Customers at Michael's Genuine Food & Drink's Farm-to-Table Dinner with Slow Food South Sound in Camana Bay the following Saturday, March 17. The multi-course, family-style meal celebrating local farmers and their bounty begins at 7:00 p.m., but at 6:15, chef Tennant will offer a personal cooking demonstration for Advantage customers using fresh local ingredients from Hurley's Meat and Produce departments. Cardholders will also receive a special take-home goodie bag of treats prepared by pastry chef Adriana Duran.

Future Michael's food cart appearances are scheduled at Hurley's on April 14th and May 12th. Menus and recipes for these events will be developed based on fresh, local availability.

Hurley's Marketplace has received notice that Novartis Consumer Health has recalled certain bottles of four of its over-the-counter medications - Excedrin, Bufferin, Gas-X and NoDoz - because they may contain stray pills or capsules from other Novartis products, or contain broken tablets. Novartis has halted operations at the Lincoln, Neb. plant that manufactured the drugs "to accelerate maintenance and other improvement activities at the site," according to a release from the company.

Novaritis is recalling all lots of NoDoz which expire on or before December 20, 2014 and all lots of Gas-X Prevention products which expire December 20, 2013 or earlier. Additionally, 16 different Excedrin products that expire on or before Dec. 20, 2014 have been recalled, as well as three Bufferin products that expire on or before Dec. 20, 2013. Complete information on the recalled products is available at -

Hurley's urges consumers that use these medications to compare expiration dates on bottles of these products they have recently purchased. If products fall within these expiration dates, they should be disposed of or returned with proof of purchase for refund or replacement.
